WHAT IS OPTIMUM?
The OPTIMUM card is a Prepaid Mastercard. It isn’t a debit card, but it can be used in exactly the same way to shop online, by phone or in high street stores, at home or abroad.
The card
It’s a card that you load with money before you shop. If it’s running low you simply load more cash onto it, and you don’t need a bank account or a credit check to get one. You might not want a credit card, or you might already have one but want something a bit more convenient that puts you, and nobody else, in control of your money.
The great thing about the OPTIMUM card is you can only spend the money you’ve put on the card, so there’s less chance of spending more than you bargained for when you’re out and about.
A card for everyone
You don’t need a bank account to get an OPTIMUM card, so you can keep your day-to-day spending money and your bank account separate.
Whether you want to use it to help you budget, for added security and peace of mind when shopping online or abroad, or to provide extra funds to a friend or family member the OPTIMUM Prepaid Mastercard is flexible and convenient.
We don’t do credit checks, but we do have to check your identify. Normally we can verify your identity online straight away, but if we can’t we may need you to send us some extra documents. In this case you will be given a card which has reduced functionality, but will still allow you to shop in the UK in GBP transactions.
Load
Choose the best way to load your card with the funds you need including debit card, bank transfer or any PayPoint or Post Office location.
We are legally required to confirm your identity when we receive your application. As long as we can do this, you will receive a card that allows you use all the great stuff Optimum has to offer. If we are not able to fully confirm your identity, you may receive a card that still lets you shop everywhere in the UK, but which has limited functionality.
