Spending & load limits

When you apply for an OPTIMUM card we’ll need to verify your identity against the information you’ve supplied, so we know it’s you. If it’s not possible to do a full ID check, we’ll set your card at a reduced spending limit, with a maximum spend of £3,000 a year. Up to £1,000 of this can be withdrawn from ATMs. If you have a reduced spending limit your maximum spending limit per single transaction is £600.

It is possible to increase this limit, but we’ll need you to send us documents so we can check your ID fully. See how to upgrade your card here.

We are legally required to confirm your identity when we receive your application. As long as we can do this, you will receive a card that allows you use all the great stuff Optimum has to offer. If we are not able to fully confirm your identity, you may receive a card that still lets you shop everywhere in the UK, but which has limited functionality.
